About the Project
Metsäpirtti composting station receives sludge from the Helsinki region water treatment facilities as well as horse manure from local stables. Combining these to peat and sand, they create mold and other gardening soils as well seedbeds. These finished products are then sold for infrastructure and gardening companies as well as private customers.
The overall composting process takes 7-9 months. The process starts with mixing the ingredients and the ready made mix is then piled into long stacks. These stacks are then turned monthly during summer months to help the composting process happen faster. During the summer, busiest time of the year, the finished products are driven to various sites throughout Southern Finland with up to 40 truckloads every day.
Project Statistics
- Client: Helsinki Region Environmental services, HSY
- Project: Metsäpirtti composting station
- Location: Sipoo, Finland
- Total area: 17 hectares
Solution
Challenge: Before using Pointscene, monitoring quantities on the site was done manually. The overall useage of the field was not that well documented.
Pointscene is used for:
- Situational Awareness: Monitoring the overall situation of the compost station.
- Quantity Tracking: Faster and more accurate volume calculations of stacks.
- Contractor invoicing: HSY can monitor the contractor invoicing accuracy by comparing the invoicing to the actual volumes.
